Synopsis
The Fury of Lee Times Three!
Bruce Lee has just died, but the BSI is swinging into action to salvage the situation. Aided by the brilliant Professor Lucas, cells from the martial arts master's body are removed and grown into three adult Bruce Lee clones. After undergoing training to bring their skills up to the level of their 'father', the three are sent out to battle crime, with one sent to take on a gold smuggler, and the other two teaming up to shut down an evil mad scientist.

After Bruce Lee dies, a government agency extracts his DNA to create clones of him. These clones then receive extensive martial arts training and are sent out to.. fight crime?
This sure is some incomprehensible Brucesploitation trash. It almost feels like each scene was created for a different movie. I gave up trying to follow the plot after about 20 minutes and just decided to let the absurdity wash over me.
And it gets plenty absurd..
There is a scene for instance where the clones fight a group of robotic men (dudes spray painted silver) and the way they defeat them is not by martial arts but by jamming poison grass into the baddies' mouths!
I don't know why robots…

The BUT@Home Extravaganza: #9 "The Clones of Bruce Lee".
I watched the Severin Blu-ray, which includes a poignant and final interview with Jon T. Benn (Professor Lucas), recorded in 2018. Sadly, he passed away just thirty days later. This film is part of the "Game of Clones: Bruceploitation Collection Vol. 1" box set, which was also screened at the BUT Film Festival in a glorious 35mm English dub print (thankfully!). I heard from friends that the film print actually exploded five seconds before the end. When they checked with the projectionist to see what they missed, it turned out to be nothing more than "The End" plastered over the final shot. Talk about an alternate ending!
The Blu-ray transfer is…

The internet wants me to believe Bruce Lee died under mysterious circumstances. According this movie it was a simple heart attack. Insert some stock footage of Bruce Lee's actual funeral and let's clone the poor soul. First Bruce Lee 2 and 3. Afterwards Bruce Lee 1. (I wrongly assumed the dead Bruce Lee would be number 1.) They do not really have any resemblance to Bruce Lee or to each other. Nevertheless every fight is a rather confusing mess. I never seem to figure out who is who.
The SBI sends out the clones to fight crime is South East Asia. That is a rather straightforward affair, something like: "Bruce Lee 2 and 3, there is this mad scientist in…

“The professor has gone mad! He’s ordered two of the Bruce Lees to fight each other!”
The British clone Bruce Lee to fight crime. One of the weirder, more notorious Bruceploitation flicks, an excuse to throw together multiple Leealikes (who train to the theme from Rocky) into a sleazy blender, with Bruce Lee 1 in a corrupt movie producer plot, while Bruce Lee 2 and 3 hang out in speedos with naked ladies in Thailand.
Something I dug - lots of animal style kung fu. Crane, mantis, dragon, tiger, snake - none of which I really associate with Lee’s onscreen persona, but all super fun, especially mantis vs snake, and snake vs monkey. Also dug the Iron Men, who are…

Did I spend over a hundred dollars on a box set of mostly public domain fake Bruce Lee movies that aren’t very good? Did I fall in and out of sleep on the couch last night to spaghetti strainer wearing clones, bronze painted diaper warriors, and the most gratuitous topless women of all time? Are Bruce Le, Bruce Lai, Dragon Lee, and Bruce Thai my friends? The answers to these questions may surprise you.

The first half-hour of this Brucesploitation mind-blower features both the main Rocky theme during a training montage and music from The Warriors. Just unapologetically ripped off. We meet 3 Bruce Lee “clones” named Bruce 1, Bruce 2 and Bruce 3. Bolo Yeung, with pecs twitching madly, trains the clones to fight. They are also programmed by pasta strainers on their heads with wires coming out while a mad doctor repeats “You will do exactly as I say.” There’s a beach scene with the clones in speedos watching a group of busty, topless girls dancing to disco music and rubbing their bare tits endlessly. Also has some of the best evil bad guy laughs in cinema history. Simply incredible and highly recommended.

1. After the mad scientist makes three clones of Bruce Lee (played by Dragon Lee, Bruce Le, and Bruce Lai) that he programs to obey his orders, two of them go off to Thailand, where they meet a guy named Chuck Lee (Bruce Thai) who is also doing the whole Bruce Lee impersonation thing. Which begs the question, why'd you have to create clones when copies are apparently hanging out all over the world?
2. Also in Thailand, the Bruces run into a bunch of buck-naked Thai girls frolicking in the surf. One says to the other, "hey would you look at that!" But no, the local guy says, "watch out, you don't want to get close!" And they escape.…

❄️Film #37/70 of Subzero Subgenre Challenge -
Watch a Brucesploitation film
Not nearly as exploitative as I would have thought, at least not at the Dragon’s expense. There’s a handful of gratuitous nude scenes where “gratuitous” feels like bouncy understatement like no other to make up for that.
This also surprises in its meta-look at Bruce clones as Dragon Lee goes undercover on a movie set and the director exposits out loud how they could take advantage of his similarity to Bruce and also their planned death of him. Macabre stuff.
Each “Bruce” is basically on their own adventure of undercover kung fu work, where the undercover element is excised almost immediately. A shame we never see all three of…

“We can capitalize for years on his death when this picture comes out.”
Cut the Magnetiser
Don’t eat the poisoned grass! Somehow, Bruce Lee, has returned. A mad scientist, topless beach, Thai beauties (named Nancy and Kathy), Dick Randall produced Bruceploitation film that gets many things wrong, but especially gets wrong not having Big Bolo Yeung as the final final boss.
Makes sense that this is the first film in the Severin Game of Clones box set because while it might not be the best Bruceploitation film it's maybe one of the most indicative of the genre: dry foliage and heavy treaded dirt "sets," shameless funeral footage, an insane number of thumb to nose fight gestures, and varying degrees of kung fu choreography from pretty bad to kinda good.
No shade to any of the New Bruces, though, we love them all, especially the one with the winged eyeliner (Dragon Lee).

You know you're an extreme empath, and a gigantic movie lover, when you openly weep when Director Godfrey Ho is exploring the dilapidated ruins of the once majestic Shaw Bros. studio.
